How it’s happening: Claiming a broad mandate from voters, officials suggest they’re not bound by court orders. Trump has also been ruling via executive orders and emergency powers.
- Lack of resistance: A GOP senator expressed concern about speaking out against Trump for fear of retribution. Even some far-right Republicans who have teased rebellion ultimately fall in line.
2. The Supreme Court will review Trump’s attempts to ban birthright citizenship.
The latest: In a special court session next month, the high court will evaluate Trump’s plan to deny U.S. citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants and foreign visitors.In more court news: Trump officials are again appealing an order to bring illegally deported Kilmar Abrego García back, which could send the case to the Supreme Court a second time.
