Did Iran Come Out on Top in the Peace Deal?
by thedaily@nytimes.com (The New York Times) on June 19, 2026 at 9:45 am
After three months of war, Iran and the United States have agreed to end the conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The news, which was first met with joy and relief, drew a wave of criticism when the actual terms of the agreement became public this week. David Sanger, a White House and national security correspondent for The New York Times, explains how the Trump administration has defended the deal, which seems to favor Iran. Guest: David E. Sanger, a White House and national security correspondent for The New York Times. Background reading: The U.S.-Iran deal, which left many of the toughest issues to future negotiations, came after a last-minute scramble. President Trump lashed out at critics of the agreement and threatened to bomb Iran again if it violated the deal. Warning: This episode discusses suicide. Hours after Jeffrey Epstein arrived at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, an employee expressed concern over his distraught state, saying in an email to the jail staff, “just to be on the safe side and prevent any suicidal thoughts can someone from Psychology come and talk with him.” The reporter Charles Homans details The New York Times’s major new investigation, which tries to answer the question: Did the world’s most powerful and well-connected sex offender die by his own hand or by somebody else’s? If you are having thoughts of suicide, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or go to SpeakingOfSuicide.com/resources for a list of additional resources. The Battle Over A.I. in the Classroom
by thedaily@nytimes.com (The New York Times) on June 17, 2026 at 9:45 am
With the school year ending, all over the country educators and parents are taking stock of the drastic shift caused by artificial intelligence in the classroom. Today, Natasha Singer, a technology reporter, discusses the year that reshaped American classrooms and how one dedicated teacher helped his students chart their own path into an uncertain future. Guest: Natasha Singer, a technology reporter for The New York Times. Background reading: Teachers say they want to equip high school students to drive A.I., rather than be mere passengers steered by chatbots. A.I. companies are urging teachers to prepare students for an “A.I.-driven future.” The American Federation of Teachers recommended “no screens” at all for those in second grade or younger, and no A.I. chatbots for students in elementary school. Maddow: Donald Trump lost the war he started with Iran; Trump humiliated on world stage
by Rachel Maddow, Marc Elias, Ayman Mohyeldin on June 16, 2026 at 6:30 am
Rachel Maddow lists the goals Donald Trump set for the war he started with Iran, from regime change to obliterating Iran's nuclear capacity, none of which have been met as Trump announces an agreement that reportedly will at least re-open the Strait of Hormuz, though apparently with some fees attached. MS NOW's Ayman Mohyeldin joins to discuss. Rachel Maddow tells the story of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which would be the biggest U.S. border crossing in Candana and one of the most important routes for trade in the entire world, except that Donald Trump refuses to open it. And it so happens that the family that owns a competing bridge gave a large amount of money to Trump's super PAC. And Marc Elias, founder of Democracy Docket, joins to discuss what American voters can do to protect the upcoming election from Donald Trump's interference. Want more of Rachel? Trump is 'lustily booed' in New York City attending NBA Finals
by Rachel Maddow, Brendan Ballou, Rep. Joyce Beatty, Jacob Soboroff on June 9, 2026 at 7:25 am
Donald Trump was roundly booed in New York City outside of Madison Square Garden on his way to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. Trump was booed again once he was spotted inside the venue. Rachel Maddow shares footage of the booing and remarks on the way Trump has arranged to benefit financially from his other sports preoccupation, a UFC fight on the White House grounds. Rachel Maddow outlines Donald Trump's desperation tactics to delegitimize elections in California, trying to convince his followers that a grand conspiracy is responsible for his electoral failures in that state and not the clear, obvious explanation that California just has more Democratic voters. Jacob Soboroff, host of Connect on MS NOW, reports live from the L.A. County Ballot Processing Center to show exactly how the California voting process works, contrary to the misinformation of Donald Trump and his supporting media. Rachel Maddow lists example after example of people or organizations giving large sums of money to Donald Trump's interests and subsequently receiving some favorable treatment from Trump. The UFC fight on the White House lawn stands out as one of the more egregious examples, with Trump essentially giving himself a birthday present from the American people. Brendan Ballou, founder of the Public Integrity Project, talks with Rachel about his lawsuit to stop Trump's UFC event. Rep. Joyce Beatty talks with Rachel Maddow about her role in defending the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts from Donald Trump's destructive force. Want more of Rachel? Yes, Trump could get in trouble for his 'IRS settlement' slush fund scheme
by Rachel Maddow, Senatory Andy Kim, Joyce Vance, Chris Parente on June 2, 2026 at 5:21 am
Amid a politically punishing backlash against Donald Trump's flagrant $1.776 billion money grab for his criminal allies, a judge is considering whether to investigation if the "IRS settlement" on which the slush fund is based began as a legitimate court case or was a fraud on the court from the beginning. Former federal prosecutor Joyce Vance talks with Rachel Maddow about the legal guidelines the judge is considering. Rachel Maddow looks at how federal prosecutors in Chicago crossed important lines of propriety in their desperation to secure indictments in politically charged cases and now face an angry backlash from a judge who is not at all pleased with their conduct. Chris Parente, defense attorney for a Chicago anti-ICE protester, talks with Rachel Maddow about pressing misconduct accusations against federal prosecutors who have been exposed for unethical behavior in trying to indict his client. Senator Andy Kim joins Rachel to talk about the protests at the Delaney Hall immigrant prison in Newark, New Jersey, and the abuses by the Department of Homeland Security broadly across the United States.
