About this Collection

On July 4, 2026, the United States will mark the 250th anniversary of its independence. As the nation commemorated its bicentennial in 1976, the semiquincentennial is being observed through a range of national, state, and local initiatives. In preparation for this milestone, Congress established the America250 Commission in 2016 to coordinate planning for the anniversary, with the Library of Congress serving as a partner agency in this effort. Since 2023, the Library has collected websites produced by the America250 Commission and other organizations documenting activities related to the commemoration.

This web archive provides a representative record of federal, state, and local semiquincentennial commissions, as well as websites from cultural and professional organizations. It also preserves digital content reflecting commemorations, historical interpretation, and community experiences across the United States.
