LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — What does it actually mean to be “middle class” in Southern Nevada in 2026? A new data study suggests the answer may depend heavily on rising costs and local income levels.

Financial analysis firm SmartAsset recently examined what income ranges qualify as middle class across the United States, using a common benchmark: households earning between two-thirds and double the median income in their area, based on U.S. Census Bureau data and Pew Research’s definition of middle income.

While the study looks nationally and by state, the findings offer insight into what middle-class life could look like in fast-growing regions like Southern Nevada, where population growth and housing costs have reshaped affordability in recent years.

SmartAsset defines the middle class as households earning roughly two-thirds to twice the local median household income — a range that shifts depending on the cost of living and wages in each region.

In Southern Nevada, the study suggests middle-class households earn roughly $49,000 to $147,000 in Las Vegas, about $55,000 to $165,000 in Henderson, and approximately $61,000 to $183,000 in Enterprise, based on median income data used in SmartAsset’s analysis and the Pew Research definition of middle income.

Those figures show how the definition of middle class can vary even within the Las Vegas valley, with higher median incomes in suburban areas like Henderson and Enterprise pushing the income range higher compared with Las Vegas overall.

Rapid population growth, rising home prices, and increasing everyday expenses continue to shape what “comfortable” middle-class living looks like across Southern Nevada.
