DoBlu.com – 4K UHD & Blu-ray Reviews | Deep Impact 4K UHD Review

A Somber Collision

Through all the times Irwin Allen destroyed cities in his ‘70s era disaster films, and as many times as Hollywood took out humanity through climate-based disasters or alien invasions, none did it better than Deep Impact.

Not for the destructive spectacle; Deep Impact has surprisingly little, and the visual effects lack the sizzle they once carried.

Instead, it’s because of Tea Leoni, standing in fear on the seashore with her previously disowned father, waiting for a cataclysmic tidal wave to end their lives.

Rarely does disaster claim the lead actor’s life. Here, she’s obliterated when humanity fails. There’s something inherently human about the acceptance, the defeat, and reality that drives Deep Impact’s drama to that moment (even if Leoni’s broadcast journalist shtick before lacks the same real world conviction).

Review: ‘Star Trek: The Motion Picture’ Comes Alive In The 4K ‘Director’s Edition’ | TrekMovie.com

Today, in celebration of Star Trek Day, Paramount+ has released the remastered Director’s Edition of the first Star Trek feature film, 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture, now in 4K UHD.

They gave her back to me, Scotty.

Set on board a refit USS Enterprise, the film reunited the original cast of the television series, with stars William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy returning to their legendary roles of Kirk and Spock.

An enormously powerful alien force that destroys everything in its path is heading towards Earth, and the crew of the Enterprise must try and stop it while learning about its true nature.

For all its grand scale, The Motion Picture is ultimately a film about identity and finding one’s path. Kirk, Spock, and V’Ger are all searching for something that will give them direction and make them feel whole, with each of them finding their answers in very different ways.

See what NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover sees in absolutely stunning 4K – CNET

The robot has barely moved from its landing spot, but it’s sending back a steady stream of visual data that’s freely available for anyone to play with.

The Mars 2020 Perseverance rover landed in Jezero Crater on the red planet less than two weeks ago, but the advanced robot has already sent back some of the most memorable motion pictures in history.

Cameras on the rover and the descent module that carried it through the Martian atmosphere documented the last few minutes of the long journey from Earth in a remarkable and spectacular way. With the dramatic landing out of the way, the far more chill but no less intriguing task of exploring the surface begins.

UK filmmaker Sean Doran has taken some of the first images taken by Perseverance from within Jezero Crater and processed them to create This is Mars, a short film that’s one of the most captivating 30-minute panning shots you’ll ever see.
