In public libraries, technology support sometimes moves through a relay. Parents sometimes ask on behalf of children. Adult children may ask for parents. Caregivers may carry steps home for later, while staff members may prepare colleagues for the next patron. When the question involves accessibility, access depends on a setting someone can use and an explanation someone can repeat. During the “PLA Update on Apple Accessibility Toolkits for Libraries” session, Michelle Frisque introduced PLA’s Libraries Advancing Accessibility project and previewed new Apple accessibility materials for public libraries. The resources focus on iPhone and iPad accessibility features for workshops, one-on-one support, and staff preparation. Fellow advisory group members Emily Steele of McCracken County Public Library and Devin Wood of Antioch Public Library District discussed how the materials could work in everyday public library service.
