The 2026 Michael L. Printz Awards Celebration honored books, authors, committee work, publishers, families, and literary communities. As a teen services librarian, I listened for the readers behind the speeches. The ceremony recognized Legendary Frybread Drive-In: Intertribal Stories, edited by Cynthia Leitich Smith, as the Printz Award winner. The Honor Books included Cope Field by T. L. Simpson, The House No One Sees by Adina King, Sisters in the Wind by Angeline Boulley, and Song of a Blackbird by Maria van Lieshout. The ALSC connection begins with reader formation. Children become teen readers through years of access, invitation, trust, and recognition. A ceremony focused on teen literature can help children’s and family librarians think about the reading lives we begin building long before a young person reaches the YA shelves.
