From the Introduction:
The 74 (3) issue of Library Trends examines the intersection of technological hype and practical reality in librarianship through the lens of data literacy. It tells the story of how evolving information ecosystems are reshaping the roles of librarians as educators, all while the underlying idea behind information literacy grows more and more complex. More specifically, this issue begs the question: As technological advancements result in external pressures felt at lightning speed (whether we actually have any opportunity to intentionally and carefully engage or interrogate), how have libraries critically and effectively integrated data literacy perspectives into their instruction-based responsibilities and roles? After all, Christine Borgman’s “data deluge” reality has essentially “happened” for more than a decade now; given this reality, how have libraries equipped their learners/patrons to navigate, interrogate, and ethically harness data across diverse contexts?
