One thing I love about being a children’s librarian is school outreach. I love getting to know new children and families, and sharing library resources with them. School outreach is critical in our line of work and I have been trying to improve the field trips to the library. This school year, I am testing out a Junior Librarian field trip experience at my library! What is the Junior Librarian experience? For younger students (Kindergarten to 3rd grade), their tasks as Junior Librarians are to create their own book awards and present that award to a book of their choice. I will begin with a storytime centered around book award winners and explain what award the books received. For an upcoming field trip, I will be reading two Caldecott Award winners.
