Students, are you feeling the dread of finals? Take a few moments to “paws” and banish those anxious thoughts on Tuesday, April 29 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., when Emory Libraries brings back our Paws & Relax Therapy Pets Study Break to the Jones Room in the Woodruff Library.

Students are shown de-stressing with a pup at last year’s Paws & Relax event in the Woodruff Library.

Emory Libraries’ therapy pet study breaks have always brought smiles to the faces of stressed-out students – and sometimes to the dogs, too.

Emory students who sign up for a time slot can spend about 10 minutes petting a dog at this study break, which is organized by Woodruff Library’s Instruction and Engagement team. And for the second year in a row, Ollie the cat will make his glorious return in Classroom 314.

Studies have shown that petting a dog or cat reduces stress hormones in college students and can lower blood pressure. Last year’s pet therapy study break at the Woodruff Library drew over 350 students.

Paws & Relax is once again partnering with the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, a Wyoming-based organization that trains and certifies teams of therapy dogs and handlers across the country.
