As part of the Organizational Effectiveness committee charge for 2024-2025, we were tasked by ALSC President Rob Bittner to look at committee structure and makeup. Rob indicated to us one of the goals of his presidency is to make ALSC committees and their charges as effective and streamlined as possible. We will be checking with current committee chairs and Priority Group Consultants/Advisors to review committee charges and identify possible changes to better fit current needs.

Our committee came up with survey questions for committee chairs and Priority Group Consultants (PGCs) to get direct feedback. We are hoping to determine if the committees feel they are productive and relevant to ALSC in 2024-2025. This feedback will help us make recommendations to the ALSC board.

As a sneak peak, the survey questions have been included below. Anyone who has thoughts or opinions is welcome to contact the Organizational Effectiveness Chairs Amy Sears, amy.sears@teaneck.bccls.org  or Tanya DiMaggio, tanya@stpl.us. Otherwise, Chairs and PGCs should be on the lookout for a survey link in their email.

• Reviewing the ALSC Strategic Plan’s “Areas of Strategic Focus” and the ALSC Vision/Core Values, how relevant is the work your committee is currently charged with? 

• Was the amount of assigned work in the work plan for the committee too little, too much, just right?
• Was the scope of work assigned in the work plan for the committee appropriate for the term of your committee?
• Was the work your committee was assigned relevant to the committee’s current charge?
• How many members are on your committee? Can your committee function with fewer members, are more members needed, or is the current number of members optimal?
• Do you feel that you received adequate feedback or follow up on your committee’s completed work?
• Elaborate – how did you seek feedback (quarterly reports, emails, etc.?) What worked and what didn’t?
• Are you incorporating Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) into your work? If not, what are the barriers that keep the committee from being able to accomplish this?
• How was your current transition into your chair position? (Onboarding, documentation, responsibilities, etc.)
• Anything else you want to share? These can be questions, comments, or suggestions.
