In anticipation of the APSI Distinguished Keynote on November 12th, the Low Maintenance Book Club will be discussing selections from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Thanh Nguyan’s The Refugees. This short story collection, set in Vietnam and among Vietnamese communities in California, explores questions of immigration, identity, love and family.

The meeting will take place over Zoom from noon-1pm on Thursday, October 29th and will focus primarily on “Black-Eyed Women,” “The Other Man,” “The Americans,” and “Fatherland.” Copies of The Refugees can be found at Duke University Libraries and your local public library.

As always, you’re welcome to attend regardless of how much (or whether) you’ve read. Just RSVP to receive a Zoom link the morning of the meeting. We hope to see you there!

If you have any questions, please contact Arianne Hartsell-Gundy (aah39@duke.edu).
