The Duke University Libraries are pleased to announce the appointment of Erin Horeni-Ogle as Senior Director of Development, effective August 1, 2026.
Reporting to the University Librarian and Vice Provost for Library Affairs, Horeni-Ogle will lead the Libraries’ fundraising team and guide efforts to build philanthropic support for one of the nation’s top research library systems.
A veteran fundraiser with nearly 20 years of experience in higher education, libraries, and the nonprofit sector, Horeni-Ogle comes to Duke from Emory University, where she has served as Managing Senior Director of Development for Emory College, the university’s primary undergraduate division for liberal arts and sciences, since 2022. Previously, she was Managing Director of Development for Emory Libraries (2019-2022) and Director of Development for the University of Tennessee Libraries (2011-2018). She has also held fundraising positions at Habitat for Humanity and Easter Seals of North Georgia.
At each institution she has served, Horeni-Ogle has demonstrated a strong record of consistent growth in dollars raised from major and principal gifts. She also brings valuable experience in capital campaign management, high-level board management, leading and coaching teams of advancement professionals, and partnering with large academic units and their leadership teams.
During her time at Emory, Horeni-Ogle led fundraising strategy and implementation for Emory College, leading the division to raise $30-40 million annually and recently completing a $350 million capital campaign. At the Emory Libraries, she increased the number of major gifts by 200 percent and secured the library system’s first gifts over $1 million. At the University of Tennessee Libraries, she served as a key member of the strategic planning committee and exceeded annual and campaign goals with two of the largest fundraising years in the organization’s history.
“I am thrilled to welcome Erin to Duke and excited about the energy and experience she brings with her,” said Joseph A. Salem, Jr., Rita DiGiallonardo Holloway University Librarian and Vice Provost for Library Affairs. “Her track record as a development leader with deep expertise in research libraries will be invaluable in helping us realize our biggest strategic priorities, develop and sustain our core library services, and engage with the communities we serve.”
“I’m delighted to be joining the terrific team at the Duke University Libraries,” said Horeni-Ogle. “Libraries have been deeply meaningful to me since I was a child. I’m honored to have the opportunity to bring my experience and expertise to support the important work of the Libraries and look forward to getting to know the Duke community.”
