It’s that time of year again – Summer Reading! As you’re busy planning for your various programming and activities to keep kids and tweens engaged during school break, be sure to check out ALSC’s 2025 Summer Reading Lists.

Every year, ALSC’s Quicklists Consulting Committee compiles and annotates these lists. They provide an easy way to share recommended reads to parents and caregivers during the busiest time of year.

Lists For Every Age

We know that summer reading programming and recommendations aren’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why our Quicklists Consulting Committee compiles four summer reading lists based on age group:

Each list contains titles, authors, illustrators, publishers, and publication date, as well as a short annotation. We also include the ISBN number for easy searching!

The lists also include a few age-appropriate educational digital resources to check out.

ALSC Member Exclusive: Printable Bookmark

This year, we’re offering a Summer Reading exclusive for ALSC members: a printable bookmark! Each bookmark provides a brief explanation of our Summer Reading Lists as well as a QR code taking you directly to them. Print them out and distribute them to patrons, or use one for yourself.

Access the bookmark here (must be logged into your ALSC/ALA account).

Interested in Compiling Reading Lists?

As mentioned, ALSC’s Quicklists Consulting Committee compiles our summer reading lists. Committee members serve as consultants and promote books and other resources through recommendations and compilations of lists like this throughout their service year. Other recent lists include our 2025 Día Reading Lists and Inspiring Future Voters List.

ALSC appoints this committee between July and October each year – fill out our volunteer form if you’re interested in being considered! It’s a great opportunity to learn more about evaluating children’s literature material, especially if you’d like to eventually be on an awards committee.
