The ALSC blog has a new post almost every day – but are you having trouble remembering to visit the blog and see the latest content? One solution is to set up an RSS Feed for yourself.

Really Simple Syndicate (RSS) Feeds allow you to gather and organize updates from your favorite online content, such as blogs and podcasts, in one easy space. Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up your own feed and adding the ALSC blog to it!

Step 1 – Choose a RSS Feed Reader

The first step to creating your feed is to choose the feed reader that’s right for you. Readers range from simple to complex, with various levels of customization. Also be aware that some readers will charge a fee, especially if you plan to do a large amount of customization – before you pay for any, be sure to read reviews to decide which one is right for you.

I personally use the RSS Feed Reader extension for Google Chrome, but other options include Feedly’s News Reader, NewsBlur, and  Inoreader.

Step 2 – Add the ALSC Blog Feed to Your Reader

The ALSC blog feed’s URL is https://www.alsc.ala.org/blog/feed – in your RSS Feed Reader, navigate to where you can add a feed, paste this address into it, and add it to your feed.

If you’re using the RSS Feed Reader Chrome extension, this is done by clicking the “add feed” button in the left-hand column:

Add Feed is circled in red. Part of the dashboard is also visible - with icons and text for all posts, unread, starred, notes, and introduction to Feeder.

Then add the URL into the text box and click “follow” to add it to your feed:

Underneath is information for the ALSC blog's feed, showing 14 followers, 5 posts/week, and updated in the past 11 hrs. Three recent blog posts are also shown - "Standing for Election 2025-26 ALSC Board of Directors," "Ariana Hussain - 2025-26 ALSC Vice President/President Elect," and "Carol K. Philips - 2025-26 ALSC Vice President/President Elect." A purple "Follow" button is circled in red.

Step 3 – Customize Your RSS Feed

Feed Readers have various levels of customization based on what reader you are using. This includes setting up notifications, enabling email digests, choosing a design theme, and creating rules so that you only see certain content from feeds.

Be sure to explore the many options for whatever feed reader you choose!

RSS Feeds not only allow you to keep up-to-date on content from sites and creators you like, but also take control over the information you receive – an incredibly useful tool in the age of doomscrolling and endless algorithms. If you’ve never used an RSS feed before, give it a try with our blog and see how you like it!
