March 2025 Author and Community Events at the Library

The Library has many programs that will get you reading, talking and connecting this month, including a silent reading event, an evening with Torrey Peters and a celebration of community stories and Black memory at ARTE NOIR during the First Friday Art Walk.

AUTHOR AND COMMUNITY EVENTS

ZAPP Zine Collection Open Hours. Saturdays, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., through March 15. Central Library Level 7. Explore the ZAPP Zine Collection of over 30,000 zines, minicomics, and other small press periodicals. The ZAPP Zine Collection is one of the world’s largest collections of zines made in Seattle and beyond. Registration is not required.

Seattle Black Spatial Histories Institute at Arte Noire. Friday, March 7, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, March 8 and 9, from noon to 6 p.m. ARTE NOIR, 2301 E Union St Suite H. Join the Seattle Black Spatial Histories Institute for a celebration of community stories and Black memory during the First Friday Art Walk and throughout the weekend at ARTE NOIR. The Seattle Black Histories Institute is Wa Na Wari’s two-year oral history / community story training institute, conducted in partnership with the Black Heritage Society of Washington State and The Seattle Public Library, with support from 4Culture. Registration is not required.

Ladies Musical Club Concert. Wednesday, March 12, from noon to 1 p.m. Central Library, Level 1 – Auditorium. Join us for a Ladies Musical Club concert featuring Brahms lieder and piano works by Liszt, Chopin and Debussy. Registration is not required.

Silent Reading Night at Green Lake Branch. Wednesday, March 12, from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Cozy up for a quiet winter evening of reading at the newly renovated Green Lake Branch. Registration is not required.

Karen Russell discusses “The Antidote.” Wednesday, March 12, from 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Central Library, Level 1 Microsoft Auditorium. Join us to hear Pulitzer finalist, MacArthur Fellowship recipient and bestselling author Karen Russell discuss her new novel. “The Antidote” is a gripping dust bowl epic about five characters whose fates become entangled after a storm ravages their small Nebraskan town. Partners include Elliott Bay Book Company. Registration is required.

Book Talk: Family, Memory and War with Bill Thorness. Thursday, March 13, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Center for Active Living, 4271 S.W. Oregon St. Local author Bill Thorness explores World War II and family history in his new book “All Roads Lead to Rome: Searching for the End of My Father’s War.” Registration is required.

Love Out Loud: A Story Time for Adults. Thursday, March 13, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Fremont Branch. Listen to a short love story featuring books written by and about BIPOC, Queer, and disabled main characters. Stay for the conversation, snacks, and refreshments. Registration is not required.

Torrey Peters and Guests at Town Hall. Wednesday, March 19, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The Wyncote NW Forum at Town Hall, 1119 8th Ave. Torrey Peters, bestselling author of “Detransition, Baby,” will be joined by local trans authors in a roundtable discussion about Peters’ new collection “Stag Dance,” which includes a novel about a group of restless lumberjacks who plan a dance that culminates in an astonishing vision of gender and transition. Partners include Charlie’s Queer Books and Town Hall Seattle. Registration is required.

WRITING EVENTS AND BOOK CLUBS

Virtual Writers Read. Sunday, March 9, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Online. Join us for a monthly reading series featuring an open mic and selected author readings from local writers. Registration is required.

El Club Latino. Sunday, March 9, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Central Library Level 8 – Meeting Room. Únase al Club de Lectura de la Biblioteca Central. Únase al Club de Lectura de la Biblioteca Central. El libro de este mes es: “Las alumbradas” de Vanessa Hernández. No se requiere inscripción.

It’s About Time Writers Reading Series. Thursday, March 13, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Ballard Branch. Since 1990, this series has featured author readings and open mics on the second Thursday of every month. Registration is not required.

Poetry Potluck. Wednesday, March 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Ballard Branch. Join our informal gathering to read aloud and listen to poems by writers throughout the world and across time. Registration is not required.
