In Vegas, brunch is as important a part of the weekend’s entertainment as the day clubs, shows, hotels, and gambling. And finding the best breakfast in Las Vegas serves a couple of important functions: You can regard it as a recuperative treatment for the prior night’s hijinks, or a head start into whatever you’re getting up to later in the day. Either way, the best brunches contain both the important elements of great food, of course, and great people watching. Add in a boozy element or rosé-all-day menu add-on, and you’ve reached the Vegas brunch trifecta.

Foods You Should Avoid on a Cruise — and What to Eat Instead | Travel + Leisure

Here’s how to keep your stomach happy on your next cruise.

Cruising has come a long way when it comes to its culinary offerings.

There are ships with Michelin-starred chefs, others highlighting local cuisine, and even vessels with a dozen or more restaurants to choose from.

While all of this sounds divine, there are few things passengers may want to skip. Here are the foods experts say you should avoid on your next cruise.

Don’t overdo it on the spice.

According to Nancy Mitchell, a registered nurse and contributing writer at Assisted Living Center, it may be a good idea to avoid high-fat and spicy foods that could “irritate the stomach lining and aggravate nausea.”

Mitchell adds, “Digestion can be much slower for people with digestive issues, and greasy foods tend to put a brake even further.” She recommends avoiding these foods from the night before boarding your cruise.

ABOARD THE SOUTHWEST CHIEF — A month after Amtrak revamped dining-car menus on the five long-distance trains that serve the West Coast — replacing pre-packaged meals in a bowl with freshly-prepared breakfasts, lunches, and dinners — it’s clear the company is aiming for a higher standard than what it previously offered.

“I was really surprised,” observes Chef Frank Villasenor, who, with Food Specialist Brian Garrigues, is manning the Southwest Chief’s kitchen, on the lower level of the Superliner dining car, out of Chicago on July 22.

“This is a step above where I thought we would go, especially with the direction we were going.”

When desert dwelling Las Vegans find themselves craving water, the natural instinct is to hop on the highway and make the four-hour drive — well four hours on a good day — to the Pacific Ocean.

So many locals and visitors forget that Las Vegas is just moments from the sprawling Lake Mead National Recreation Area where opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, and even scuba diving abound.

The 1.5 million-acre Lake Mead National Recreation Area is situated on the border of Nevada and Arizona and is comprised of both Lake Mead and Lake Mohave (a reservoir along the Colorado River). The bright blue body of water can make for the perfect day trip from the Strip or a weeklong voyage on a houseboat.
